I get together once a month with some former coworkers. Of course we meet at a bar because half of us still work at the company. I like to make a gift for them each year. One year it was potholders and kitchen towels, last year it was glass soap dishes. This year I made skin care packages with handmade lotion, soap, lip balm (here's a good recipe although I make mine without fragrance) and lotion bars.
I was new to the concept of a lotion bar so I made a sample in one of my soap molds and tried it out. I absolutely loved it on my heels and feet. The beeswax in it seems to really help hold the moisture in your skin. I use it at night before I go to bed. But I didn't like having to handle the bar every time I wanted to use it. I was thinking about the lip balm tubes and figured that I could find a larger tube as well.
I found them on Amazon of course!
Lotion bars are easy to make. Put all of the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and then microwave until everything is melted. Each of the deodorant containers holds about 3 ounces of liquid. You can adjust the amount you make based on how much you need. The ingredients are:
2 parts beeswax
2 parts coconut oil
2 parts other oils (I used Shea Butter and Mango Butter, the next time I will use Shea and Almond oil)
Vitamin E (for 6 ounces of oils I added the oil from 3 Vitamin E tablets
You can pour the melted oils into containers like these or any other mold that you want. They will set up in a cool place in a couple of hours. So far the people that I've given these to really love them. Eczema suffers seem to be the most happy.
Inside the gift bag is a bottle of lotion, a lotion stick, 2 lip balms and a box with 2 bars of soap. Making your own skin care projects is very easy and even more economical.
