Not Christmas pictures

Yesterday was Saturday Sewing with my guild. I got the center section of my QOV quilt done and came home with an idea for yet another quick Christmas project. Both of which I will share next week.  But in the frenzy of the day I forgot to post my Saturday photographs.

I had intended to share some Christmas photos but then we had a cool storm earlier in the week and woke to some neat ice patterns on the cars. The next day we caught the moon just after dusk. So you are getting those photos instead.

One day late.

Photoshop Class

One of the reasons for the lack of sewing product here on the blog is that I am taking a Photoshop Essentials class at Kim Klassen Cafe. I talked about her free Skinny Mini eCourse on the 3 Creative Studios blog last month. The class was so good that I decided to sign up for her Essentials class. It is one of the best online courses that I have EVER taken! 

I've been using Photoshop Elements for several years and edited hundreds of photos. I am learning that I was only using about 10% of the capabilities of the software. Kim covers an amazing amount of material in video lessons. 

Here are some photos that I have edited so far.

In this version I removed the power box under the tree, enhanced the color of the tree, added a texture and effects on the lettering. Cool, huh?

Here's another example. I started with these 2 photos that I took in Biltmore in 2009.

I turned them into this:

 

OK, it's kind of a crappy end result but it was the process of getting there that was cool. Loads of possibilities with Photoshop now that I am finally learning the software! Also loads of opportunities to waste HOURS on the computer playing with photographs.

Creative Cue - Wreck

Terri has been running Creative Cue at Three Creative Studios for several months. I hadn't had time to really consider participating before but I've decided to jump in now and use it as a photography prompt. She posts the new Cue every Sunday and the word for this week is "Wreck".

Fortunately I don't have a car wreck or anything gruesome to show you but I found this "wreck" in our home that drives Chris insane. I don't cook often enough for this to drive me crazy but he threatens to toss it all out about once a month.

 

It made for some interesting Photoshop effects.

 

 

 I first converted it to black and white and then applied the colored pencil filter.

 

 

 In this version I went back to the color photo and applied the rough pastel. I played with the settings within that filter until I got this, which I think is pretty cool.
