3-part Gradients

Two more! I have found that I'm getting the most interesting colors mixing previously blended colors with yellow or grape. The two I have to offer today were done with grape.

I am starting to find grays!

and blue-grays!

3-part Dye Gradients

I completed 2 more gradients this week. Before I show them I want to mention that if you I can dye any of the gradient sets that I have done for you at any time. Just send me an email with what you want and I'll be happy to do it. Custom orders are the same price as the fabrics in my shop = $18/yard.

Here are the 2 new ones.

This one a blend of Dark Plum and Yellow yielded a beautiful mahogany color (3rd from left).

I love the russet colors created with this blend. Lots of autumn going on there!

3 part dye gradients - part 3

I knew that I would get brown with this blend but I thought I might get richer browns and I was right. I love the texture in these 4 fabrics.

A note about my colors. The fabric on the left in each of these 3-part blends is one of my own recipes. None of them are based on commercially available blended dyes. The names are names I pick. My recipe book is code based and the code in parentheses is what I normally call the color. I mention all of this because someone asked recently.

The Sea Blue on the left (22E) is one of my favorite recipes. I use this blue a lot. I didn't mixed these with the dyes a lot so these fabrics (and the ones in the previous sample) are more textured than usual. I love that jade green on the left (right next to the blue). 

3 part dye gradients - part 2

I have 2 more 3-part dye gradients to share this week. These two shoe perfectly the reasont hat I bother to do these blends. 

Of course, I have lots of nice oranges from my 2-part blends but I am in love with all three of these from the russet (second from the left) on the left to that rich red, second from the right. The fabrics on either end are the two colors that I blended.

This one is a blend of the plum on the left and yellow. The plum is a blend of 2 other pure dyes. Again, I love the results of this test. That deep wine in the middle is fabulous........well, I think it is anyway!

You might wonder what I do with these.

I cut a 2" strip of the fabric and attach a tag with the color code. All of these are referenced in a binder with the recipes. I use that binder in every dye session.

I've got lots of color recipes now! I have tried many times to keep these in some kind of color grouping or neat order but it never works. I work with them best spread over the floor.

I use the swatch strips to build color palettes or to send someone a photo of colors to consider. 

Like this palette that I created for someone a few months ago. It's been a lot of work to develop, test and document all of these recipes but it sure makes my job easier when it's time to create custom fabric for someone (or for myself).

I can't wait to create my next 3-part gradient!
