I always try to make a special batch of postcards for July birthdays. July (today in fact) is my Mom’s birthday. It’s also my college roommate’s birthday and she LOVES getting the fabric postcards. These are the cards that I designed for them this year.
They started with these ribbons. I have several fancy ribbons that I bought a few years ago with the intention of using them to make postcards. I’ve used a couple of them but have plenty left that need to find homes in projects. I pulled these bee ribbons and then found 2 batiks in my stash that matched perfectly.
I started with the gold cards. To cut the ribbon so the bees would be aligned right I had several large bees left over.
The leftover large bees and the narrow yellow ribbon became the design for the blue cards.
The yellow card has a fancy gold yard and blue ric rac added as edging.
I used a Black-Eyed Susan screen print on the gold card and a Daisy screen on the blue card. Both of these are from PG Fiber2Art.
The screen print alone wasn’t quite enough so I added some liquid beads. I love using liquid beads as an accent on my postcards and I think it was the perfect finishing touch on these.
Hopefully Mom got hers in the mail today.
