Time to check in on the mosaic wall. I have 3 more sections done to share with you today.
This one is my absolute favorite so far and I can't even drink beer! When I started slumping bottles I slumped this beer bottle flat. It had been laying on the hall bench for months because I didn't have anything to do with it but couldn't yet toss it out. After waling by it about 500 times I finally thought to see if it would stick to the wall and it did! It stayed there until I brought home one of the boxes of pottery scraps and saw some that was the color of beer. There was even a handle that I could use and the beer pouring from the bottle. I soon had beer and foam. On the next trip to collect pottery there was a big dish that was perfect for the background.
I don't want this wall to be one big I-Spy quilt so I need some blocks that are simple geometrics. My friend, Becky, gave me some Limoges china and I put it to use as inner and outer borders for this section. The center is from a broken pot that my friend, Susan, gave me. The colors were perfect.
The white pieces are all from the china and when I could I put the label side out.
When I started this block I just wanted to have some red. I haven't gotten any red pottery but I found 2 deep red plates at Family Dollar for $2 each. I added in a fused glass cabochon. The rest is all pottery.
Here's the wall as it stands now. I'm focusing on the sections at the end of the longarm because they are the most awkward to reach. I want to get these out of the way and then we will probably grout this area before moving on. So far it's a huge improvement on that big crack in the wall!
