What a great week I had last week. I had 2 friends visiting.
I met Denise in 1999 when my company bought hers and I got to spend several months in Los Angeles working on the transition. Denise was the person I worked with and she kept me sane. I was thrilled to find out she was also a quilter and we've been great friends ever since. She still works at the company and, fortunately for me, has to travel to Richmond periodically.
I met Laura (from the UK) through her husband. He and I managed a project together from about 2000 - 2003 and that's how I got the opportunity to spend a lot of time in London. I didn't get to know Laura until she moved here with Ian when he came to work in Richmond for 3 years. She also does lots of crafts and we are bad influences on each other. She is also very skilled at getting my husband to do things for her, like making a dinner of grilled steaks and homemade eggnog in March.
It was coincidence that they were both here at the same time but we took full advantage of it. We shopped on Monday while Denise was off and then Laura and I had 2 days crafting together.
I taught Laura how to make fabric postcards. I didn't get a photo of hers but here are some that I have in process and hope to finish this week. These are made using Candy's free-motion sketching technique. There's still a few hours for you to enter the giveaway for her new DVD!
Then she was kind enough to help me get started on my kitchen floorcloths. There are 2 9' runners and a small one to put in front of the refrigerator. These things are beastly to make which is why I've waited about a year to finally make them. I'm going to like them when they are done but it's an effort to get there. I've spent most of the time since they left Friday working on them and they are almost ready to turn over to Chris for 3 coats of polyurethane.
I'm glad everyone enjoyed the Spring Break giveaways. You still have a few hours to enter (each of the past 6 posts) I'll be drawing the winners later this afternoon. First I have to head downtown to VCU because I've been given the opportunity to meet the guys behind this:
