If all went as I planned you did not notice that I was away for a week. Chris and I took our first vacation together in years. I would not have been able to make any trip had I not figured out most of my allergy issues a couple of years ago. I still have lots of limitations because I have to travel with my food but we could not turn down an opportunity to visit Bermuda.
The company I used to work for purchased another company that has offices in Bermuda. One of my good work friends (and his wife) are living in Bermuda to work on the business transition. We were very happy to receive an invitation to visit!
What a beautiful island. The water is clear and turquoise, it's very lush and green and the people are lovely. Like all tropical locations, it's very humid which creates a lot of mold. I was really happy that I tolerated it very well.
I packed about half of my food and all of my linens and that worked out really well. I took old linens so I would not have to bring them back. We had 2 suitcases going out and only 1 coming back. That's how much food and other stuff I had to bring with me!
It was worth it to see this.
The weather on an island is always iffy but we were lucky to only have 2 rainy days. We used those days for sightseeing in St. George, Hamilton and the Dockyard. It's a tiny island (11 miles x 2 miles) so it doesn't take long to see everything.
The beaches are particularly beautiful. We aren't sunbathers but we did visit a couple of beaches and loved the soft pink sand.
There are lots of places for walking there. It's quilt hilly so any walk is a great workout. Chris and Ian played golf while Laura and I did a 4 mile hike on the North Shore.
Our friends live in Smith's parrish and are a short walk from Harrington Sound. Ian let us use his kayak one day to explore the Sound. How about that tan that I'm sporting?
Everything is Bermuda is very clean and the houses are painted pretty colors with white roofs. It was very picturesque.
Having said all of that there is one big downside to Bermuda; it's incredibly expensive. We were lucky to have a free place to stay and we ate all of our meals at home. I think if you went there and stayed at a moderately priced hotel and ate meals out you could expect to spend $500 - 700/day. I think that's a lot. But if you want a place to really unwind and relax you might just enjoy a trip to Bermuda. I'm glad we went. I think we both needed the break.
