It's time for Judy's new mystery quilt! It's called Back to Square One and it's a medallion quilt. The first instructions are posted today and here are the segments that you will make in January. At the first of each month Judy will have a link box where you can link to your finished step from the previous month. She will draw a winner to will receive a Stash Pack from my shop.
I'm posting my pieces for the Emerald Isle kit that I designed for this quilt. It was a popular kit and I've decided to offer it for a few more days. Kits ordered between now and January 10 will be shipped by January 20. The kits will not be offered after January 10.
Here are the fabrics in the kit with the exception of fabric #6. When I started putting my quilt together I determined that fabric #6 was too dark so the actual kits have that fabric one shade lighter.....and it's much better!
Here are the components that you will make for January. (Horrible photo, I know.) Easy peasy!
This mystery quilt is a great one for beginners and I thought I'd offer a few tips for sewing these blocks.
- You are going to be working with bias edges so starching your fabric might be of help. I almost always starch my fabric before I cut out a new quilt and I make my own starch following this recipe. Let the starch soak into the fabric before you iron it.
- Here's a little tutorial for sewing perfect points
- Take your time cutting or you will do what I often do - why do I never learn this lesson? I can't seem to keep my rotary blade against the ruler. Don't do that with your cutting.

I thought I was the only one that did that with a rotary blade. My cutting has a tendency to be wonky.
