and it's his own fault!
We all know about the snowball effect except that we usually do it to ourselves by picking up a little pile of scraps or something and the next thing you know you are making a king sized quilt. This time Chris started it.
Chris' Dad is 95 and recently had to be moved to a care facility. As a result the siblings all gathered to clean out the house and divide up the possessions. Fortunately Chris didn't bring much home except that clock and this highboy. He intended to replace my dresser with this but he had not thought that through. First, this piece of furniture is too tall for me to use the top drawer and I happen to like my dresser just fine and didn't want it replaced.
So, it has to go in the guest room. What he didn't know is that I've been wanting to get rid of the guest room furniture for YEARS but really couldn't justify it.
You see, my Aunt gave me this furniture when I was 16 and that was a very long time ago. It's perfectly functional but the design of the furniture is just not me and the bed is only a full size which is not good for visiting couples. Within 5 minutes of the highboy arriving a new plan had emerged in my head.
We've given the old furniture to a friend for her daughter (who is about 16) and all that's left to be removed is the bed. I have the new queen sized mattress already and Chris is going to build a platform bed for it.
I dyed 10 yards of denim this weekend in the Red Sunset gradient. You can tell that I haven't ironed it yet. I am all ironed out for the moment! The gradient will be the headboard, the blue will cover the base of the bed and the reds will be used for valances and/or pillows or something. I still need to come up with a bed covering and may dye the old bedspread in the gold color.
Of course Chris will have to repaint the room that he painted only 2 years ago. This will eventually lead to redecorating the guest bathroom which will lead to addressing our bathroom too. Both of them have wallpaper so that's going to be an "ugh" chore.
Poor guy, he doesn't know what hit him and I bet this is the last time he brings home a piece of free furniture! Once the existing bed is removed we will get started on the project and I'll share our progress.

oh, I totally understand that one thing leads to another project thing, whether it comes to decorating or cleaning, or quilting!

I'll tell Dennis to read this post so that he learns how to avoid these type of situations! LOL

We have that going here as well. Instead of decking the halls, we're painting the walls. It all started with replacing the very old rust colored carpeting on the stairs with beautiful oak stair treads.

This so made me laugh, Vicki. Poor Chris little did he know what he was in for when he brought that highboy. Your fabric is fantastic though I'm sure the room will look amazing :)

It is amazing how big those snowballs get from one little clock and a piece of furniture! Have fun with it!

The highboy is beautiful! I have not finished the snowball at my house which I started when I moved in the place 9 years ago! My plan is in 2013 to finish as much of the house as I can so I will relish any motivation and inspiration I can absorb from your project and try to translate that into my house. It will be fun to compare the progress each of us makes!

It looks like we've all been there, one way or another! It also looks like it will be a fun new room when complete and I'm hoping you'll post pictures along the way.
