Instead of going to Houston this year Mom and I decided to stay here and have a little mini-retreat. Chris is in Nebraska on his annual hunting trip so we have the house to ourselves for a few days. She arrived yesterday and we got started with some sewing and then met my college roommate and her Mom for drinks. The we cam home and watched the final episode of the total collapse of the Virginia Tech football program. Ugh. That was an ugly game.
We are also planning to see the Chihuly exhibit at the VMFA and a Baltimore album quilt exhibit at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum in Williamsburg followed by a visit to my brother's family in Newport News sometime this weekend.
Today we are staying home and sewing.
Mom is working on another Stack and Whack quilt. This one uses a pretty ugly (IMHO) Christmas print.
I got the border on Wanda's quilt and I am dyeing a backing for it today.
But mostly I will be doing a lot of cross-hatching today. I got the whole quilt stabilized yesterday and am ready to start the fun stuff.
I'll be back Sunday with a progress report. During our retreat I'm suspending the color and color palette project posts.

Have a terrific time and happy sewing!

That is the perfect color for the border on that quilt.
Have fun with your mom. I'm so glad I got to meet her too in June.

So nice you two have so much fun stuff to do together. I love Glenda's stack & whack - it doesn't look like Christmas fabric to me.

We saw some Chihuly pieces in Seattle -- there's an exhibit next to the Space Needle. Fabulous! And the sun was shining when we were there. There were pieces outside, and they just glowed. Sounds like you're all in for a F*U*N time!

The stack and wack blocks are looking good. It is amazing what a little wacking can do! I saw Chihuly's work in Pittsburgh at the botantical gardens and it is inspiring. Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned.
