This week I have some new shibori fabrics for you. Have you noticed that most shibori fabric is dyed one color? When I started dyeing shibori fabrics I wanted more depth of color and that's why all of my shibori fabrics are dyed twice. I start with a tight wrap and dye the darkest color. For the second bath I loosen the wrap to expose more area to the dye and then dye the lighter color. For these fabrics the first dye bath was either black or dark blue. The second bath was either turquoise or yellow. You can find all of these, and many others, in my shop.
Double dyeing takes more time but I believe the end product is worth it! When I dye these fabrics for the shop I also dye a sample for myself and that's what I am using in my Grandmother's Choice shibori series. I wanted to see how shibori fabrics will look in traditional blocks and so far I like them a lot.

Great depth and texture on these pieces!

I can imagine the effort it takes to dip and dye! Your fabrics are gorgeous. I got to visit an indigo shop in Japan and they had huge vats and dyed their fabric right there on site. Plus you could buy the end product.

The shibori fabric is beautiful! It is a lot of work to dye it once much less do it twice. But the results are stunning! I can imagine it is twice as beautiful in person. I have managed not to find any time this summer to do any dyeing at all.
