I finished the orange flame quilting. When I started that motif I thought I would enjoy quilting this motif but I didn't. I don't know why but I could never really get a good rhythm.
On the other hand, I didn't think I would like the quilting I am doing in the lime section but I knew I needed to practice it. This motif is the base for a lot of different fill designs. Doesn't it figure that I actually like doing this one! I am able to get a rhythm going and I'm already about 1/3 done with the lime swirl.
One thing this project has taught me is to slow down. It's clear to me now that I quilt too fast and I think that's why I make so may mistakes. I do not use the stitch regulator when I am doing fill work so it's really important to try to get a good steady rhythm and that's been easiest on this motif than any of the others.
The next and last section is the purple spiral. Unless I can come up with something better I will likely pebble that one. Anyone have an idea that will save me from pebbles?

On another topic, is anyone else annoyed with the Olympics coverage on NBC? They could show us so much more athletics during prime time and instead it's all human interest stuff. I don't mind some of that but, frankly, I am tired of Michael Phelps and that women's volleyball team. Last night was the worst. I don't think there's any event that displays more athletic ability than the decathlon. We got about a 1 minute quick wrap up of that event followed by about 30 insipid minutes with Misty May and Kerri telling us how great they are. Ugh.
Don't even get me started on synchronized swimming.

I'm with you about the Olympics, I'm tired of the same things, and then nothing about several of the other events. Very poor coverage.

I'm ready for closing ceremonies. Your machine quilting is beautiful. ann

Um, yeah, thank goodness for the DVR so that we can skip MP and the beach volleyball. I'd like to see some other stuff, too and we've been lucky enough to record everything and just delete what we don't want to see - more volleyball, water polo, etc.
The quilting looks good - very cool patterns and I'd have thought the Baptist Fan looking stuff would be harder than the flames.

I heard a story on NPR that NBC is trying to attract a different viewing audience with use of the human interest stories. It is supposed to get more family and women viewers. Obviously, they don't understand their audience as usual.
Your quilting looks perfect to me :)

I am really enjoying your filler work here--such a good idea that I should try too.

Well thank goodness we didn't get lots of coverage of the trampoline competition! I love the design in the lime section. And I love the lime too.

I really like the quilting, nicely done. I plan on doing some small pieces and practicing my free motion.

The more I hear about NBC's poor coverage of the Olympics, the more I'm glad I live in Canada. I can watch many events live streamed or live on tv or watch replays in evening. Many events are recorded so I can watch them whenever I want online thanks to the CTVOlympics app for my mobile devices. I also get to see athlete's performances from more countries than just Canada.

Forget prime time for the Olympics, have watched almost everything I wanted to see online.
Your quilting is great.

If I see another volleyball game, I'm absolutely sure I will throw up. Since when did volley ball in your underwear become Olympic-worthy? Geesh!

Yes, NBC stinks. Anything I want to to watch is on after 10pm. And if I have to see anymore beach volleyball, I'm gonna scream!!
Your fillers are looking great. Can't wait to see the other side.

I like your quilting exercise. They all look great! I think you should switch to an angular type of filler pattern...something with no curves, all lines and corners. I find those are sometimes difficult because I tend to pause at the corner just a bit and get a little thread build-up, or if I rush it at the corners they get a little rounded.

Do you think it's the pointy bits that make it not enjoyable for you? I does look great though.

Vicki,
Your flames are really nice. I want to try to practice that by looking at your image. That orange color really drew me in. :)
