Yes, I am going to start a new project. My friend, Becky, is a big fan of Barbara Brackman and works with her on some of her Block programs. She's been working on the new one, Grandmother's Choice, and got me interested in it.....so here I go.
Even when I have not participated in Barbara Brackman's programs in the past I have always enjoyed reading them. Each post is full of historical background that relates in some way to the block. Grandmother's Choice is a project devoted to Women's Suffrage movements around the world. There will be one block each week posted on Saturday and it starts this Saturday.
Here are my fabric choices. I've decided to revisit my love for kaleidoscopic and symmetry quilts and do this one in Paula Nadelstern's Puzzle Quilts technique. Becky made some blocks with fussy cutting that got me thinking in this direction. The fabrics in the back are from my symmetry collection. I picked them so that they will blend with the reproduction fabrics in the blacks and browns. I'll also blend in a few hand dyed fabrics as well.
I d not have any expectation of keeping up week to week but I will do the best that I can and will post progress as I make it.
Is anyone else doing this project? If you are interested the blog is here and there is a Flickr group here.

Lovely color choices!

I can't wait to see how you make this collection of beautiful fabrics come to life!
Barbara history stories about Women's Rights are real eye openers!

Thanks for reminding me, this month went by, way too fast, lol.
I love your fabric choices. I will follow along, not sure if I will be able to do the quilt, but I will see.

Great concept. I'd like to see my local quilt shop offer this.

I read Barbara's blog too. I considered doing the challenge but I have sort of sworn off challenges so I can pursue my own ideas more wholeheartedly. But who knows?
