It's time to take a look at the color palette and to start selecting some fabrics. Since the palette photo is so revolting to some people I'm going to skip that part here and start with my hand dyed selection. When I first saw the photo and created the palette I decided to play around with fabrics and created this palette. It's over a year later and I still like this collection of fabrics. If I were making a quilt I'd probably use either the darkest or lightest as the background and use the other of the pair as an accent.
Next I had to go through my stash and, surprisingly, found this fat quarter. It's the only fabric in my stash that has all of the palette colors. Next I started pulling some textures to blend with it.
I came up with these. This was a difficult palette to work with because all of the blues that would go with this print were used in my Teal Tomorrow quilt. I had to pull the 2 blues from my hand dyed stash. The reds and yellow are commercial prints. Because of the water color effect of the background fabric I couldn't really put distinct prints with it. All of the coordinating fabrics needed to be textures.
At least that's my opinion!
But, let's say that you don't really like the whole palette. That's OK, pick out the parts that you do like (or have fabrics for).
I could take the red/yellow parts of this palette and make a fun project with these prints.
I hope you will join us for the challenge and I can't wait to see the fabrics that you choose.

Can you clarify what those 2 dark colors are for this month's challenge?
My friend is seeing one of the colors as black, while I see those dark colors as a dark maroon/brown and a dark green.
Thanks!

Hey Vicki,
Do you think you'll make the color palette available for sale at a future date (ie. after the challenge is over?)
I love this color combo (even though the original color source is way gross).
Thanks.
