So now we've had a few days to ponder the color palette and it's time to select the fabrics. This time I started by going through my stash.
I pulled out lots of fabrics and eventually found this one. It's pretty much the entire color palette! So I decided to see if I could build a fabric set around it.
There are a variety of reds, a few purples and a few greens. The two red florals at the bottom of the photo are actually fabrics that were in the same line as the focus fabric. The acid green stripe (as much as I adore acid green) seemed a little harsh to me and the purple on the far right seemed a little to gray. My fabrics are going to be a bit brighter than the colors of the palette. But that's OK!
I narrowed the final choice to these fabrics. I love the purple flowers on black and think it makes a nice blending fabric and I am using the two dark reds for my dark values. I turned over the acid green stripe and saw that the other half of the fabric had the greens toned down a bit and I like that much better. I think this would make a pretty quilt.
Checking the values I am quite please with this mix. While there aren't any light-lights, there is a good blend of very dark, medium and medium-lights.
My project this month is going to be a small one. My cousin has requested a Kindle cover and I decided to use the color palette exercise this month for that.
I found these sun prints that I made earlier this summer and this hand dyed scrap that matched them perfectly. So now I have the base fabrics and I need to add some spark to it.
A bit of pale green will add a nice highlight and give me some value contrast, and
some dark purple will add some richness and punch to the palette. I think I'm set and ready to get sewing!

When I saw the color palette for this month all I could think of was "wow, so many colors." But I love all the bright. I have not gone throught my stash yet but that is on the agenda for this weekend. I need a new iPad cover so maybe I will use this to get one made. Thanks, again.

It's really interesting to see how you choose your fabrics. I'm going to try out some of your desaturating this month :)

I am longing for the sun to do some sun printing again. Yours are lovely, nice and crisp.
Great colour palatte.
