I can't believe I am at the end of my Journal Quilt project! Here are the last 3 quilts in the series.
This is my December 16 journal. Most dyers are familiar with the work of Carter Smith. He is very well known for his shibori silk garments. He also sells scraps and I bought some! I decided to use a few of them for a journal quilt as a way to make myself break into the box. It's a big box of scraps and contains a little of everything from small bits to fat quarter sized pieces and they all are spectacular in patterning and color. I can't wait to make something else with them!
This one is my December 23 journal. I wanted to use one of my new Go! dies so I picked the chicken/rooster and eggs.
After I made the last one I put all 51 journals on the wall to see them together. Then I printed this image on fabric and created the very last journal.
I used the printed image to create the numbers for my last journal.
I am so glad I did the journal quilts this year. Certainly some are much better than others but then some weeks are better than others too! I will not be doing journal quilts in 2012 - one year is ENOUGH! But we are doing the color palette challenge so check back tomorrow for the kick off of that.

What a spectacular finish! I have four more to go. I decided that because I started late, I'd let myself finish late. And thanks for hosting the challenge...I got more out of it than I can articulate. Happy New Year.

All wonderful pieces, I like the idea of making small art pieces, I need to sew and learn, so small is best for now.

I love the one with the silk scraps. Good for you, completing the whole year. I didn't even make it half way but I'm glad I participated.

I don't blame you, a journal quilt per week a is a big commitment I've enjoyed seeing them but I'm sure you'll work on other fun stuff in 2012.

This is so wonderful, congratulations on getting to the finish. I love the idea of seeing an entire year's journals all together. I wonder . . . could I try this? Your creativity is so inspiring.

It has been fun reading your post through the year and seeing your journal quilts. Seeing all of them together really makes a statement about what a commitment it was to do each week. Whew!
I enjoy your blog in so many ways. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills.

Another comment...the other day, I was looking at some photos of meteor showers. They were all cool shots, but one of them really stood out for me, and I thought, gee, this would make a great quilt. As I was looking at all your journal quilts, the one above the rooster quilt looks very similar to the image I had forged in my mind of how the quilt would look!

Knowing my attention span and my time constraints, I decided to do a monthly journal quilt. I did great for the first 5 months and then .. nothing. So I have decided to combine the monthly journal quilt with the color pallet you are doing with Judy L and that way, hopefully, I will complete the two challenges this year. I have printed the colors and will be pulling fabric this afternoon.

I'm doing the CQ journal project so I'm hoping mine comes out as well as yours! I've never made a full quilt in my life so fingers crossed....Happy New Year, Vicki. I hope lots of bluebirds nest in your boxes!!
