I am finally catching up! Today I have 2 journal quilts to share.
This one for September 16 was made to commemorate my trip to London. I raided my stasn of vintage seam binding for the British flag elements and stitched in tickets and other tidbits from my trip.
While at the V&A with Kate and Karol-Ann, I found the book Just my Type. Like anyone else who creates in Word, Powerpoint or Photoshop, I love to play with fonts. This book has lots of stories about the history of different fonts and has given me a great appreciation for the people who designed the fonts that we use and love. I learned that one of the best ways to tell the different between different font families is to look at the lowercase "g". I made this piece with some of my favorite Word fonts. I printed them on white cotton and silk organza and then layered them almost on top of each other. I used the lame between the cotton and silk to hide part of each letter.

I love the different g's. Cool use of fonts.

Very clever! I like too that they really relate to your recent trip. That first one reminds me of those message boards that you can make with cross strips which hold in various papers and ephemera.

Did not know that about fonts...now I'll be looking at the letter "g" in everything. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I love the V&A.
