Another thing I am doing a lot of these days is labeling quilts. I have some to do for gifts and several to do for the quilts that are going to the museum exhibit in September. I'm just not good at keeping up in that particular chore.
I thought I'd share how I do my labels, although, I admit to occasionally just using a permanent marker and adding my name and date right on the quilt. But, when I'm not lazy, I make my labels like this.

My preferred label is one that's printed from my PC on fabric. I create the images in Powerpoint but any photo editing software would work and Google Docs has free tools for creating presentations or documents.
I like to use an image of the quilt (or part of the quilt) as a background for my label. In the 2 labels above I used part of an image and I purposely faded the image a bit. The two labels on the bottom of the sheet are for Anne. She's got a big "thing" for skulls.

I cut out the label leaving about 3/8" all the way around and I clip off part of the corner. I then cut a piece of plain white fabric the exact size of the label and fuse that to the back of the label. I think this makes the label look nicer by blocking any show through from the quilt backing or from teh turned under edges.
I actually keep a good sized chunk of white fabric with Mistyfuse on one side so that I can cut these lining pieces as I need them.

Press the corners and sides to the back.

To avoid pinning the label to the quilt and for added security in case someone tries to remove the label, I fuse more Mistyfuse to the back of the label. This has the added benefit of keeping the seam allowances pressed in place.

Fuse the label to the quilt and hand stitch it in place. The best part of this is that if I don't really have to stitch it if it isn't going to be washed.....but I do stitch them....but there might come a day when I don't!
Pretty exciting, huh?
