I decided to share a quilt that were started by my Great Grandmother and finished by me. I was given three quilt tops that Flora made. It took me a few years, but I eventually finished them. Of course, there are still blocks of hers that aren't made into quilts yet. Mom and I have finished 4 so far. This was the first one.
This one is made from a block called Dutchman's Breeches. It did not have that outside border of blue and yellow sashing. I found some vintage blue fabric that mostly matched and I found a pale yellow (at Wal-Mart of all places) that matched her yellow exactly.
I quilted most of her quilts with the Baptist Fan patter. Every quilt that Flora made was quilted with the Baptist Fan. Her's were hand quilted, mine are machine quilted. I am certain that if she were given the option of machine quilting her quilts that she would have done so!
This one, however, is custom quilted with pumpkin seeds int he sashing and feathers in the breeches.
