Isn't it great when you weekend plans to accomplish things actually come to fruition? It happens rarely enough that it's like a special event when it does happen. Aside from the embarrassing performance by the Eagles, that was my weekend. Actually, because the game was so bad I ended up with a couple of extra hours because I couldn't bear to watch the whole thing.
My primary goal for the weekend was to get my Initiative challenge quilt quilted and bound. I got it quilted, blocked, trimmed and the binding sewn to the front. All I have left to complete by Friday is the hand sewing, label and hanging sleeve. Binding was a close call. This little piece of fabric is all I have left of the background and binding fabric. It was my lucky day!
Do you remember a few weeks ago when I made some of the 3 Creative Studios BOM blocks blending hand dyed and commercially printed fabrics? Well, I finally finished the project by making them into a set of 4 placemats.
If I get my act together and edit all of the photos, there will be a tutorial for the 3 Creative Studios project page soon. These were very easy and quick to make. I got them done during the second half and overtime of the Cardinals game today.
What are new placemats without matching napkins? I was going to make napkins from the print fabric but my friend Cindy, the estate sale Queen, brought me some napkins from some estate sales so I dyed a set to match the placemats.
What did Cindy get out of the deal? She got her cotton knit fabric custom dyed. She is planning to make scarves from this. I had not dyed interlock knit fabric yet but it dyed beautifully.
What else did I do? I dyed a flannel quilt back, 11 yards of fabric and made 2 batches of soap. I had plenty of time because it was too darned cold to go outside!
I hope you had a great weekend too. Now I need to settle in to do some hand stitching.

I love your placemats.... Those colors are wonderful and would go with my Fiesta Ware perfectly!

Ok, yes, you were extremely productive! The placemats and napkins are the perfect color for this time of year, when everything is white or grey!

Glad your plans came to fruition - it's always nice to cross the goals off the list. The placemats turned out to be a very pretty set.

You were busy weren't you? I got a lot done too -- mostly binding and cleaning up my sewing room but with an upcoming trip this week I feel caught up so that's good.
The Eagles game was terrible and I thought the GB one was going to be just as bad but they finally showed up even if they did end up losing.
