Bird Watch - The 2010 Season Ends

Well, I got excited with the new nest Monday but I went to check on it today and it's empty. The nest is still in pristine condition so I don't know what happened. Most critters that would have taken the eggs would have destroyed the nest. Regardless, the 2010 season comes to an end with 19 fledged babies. Not bad!

Last week Chris noticed a new nest in box 3. Today he checked and there are 4 new eggs. This is the latest we have every had eggs. We'll see how it goes! Susan, in New Jersey, told me she has a new Bluebird nest at her house too.

While I was away the Bluebirds grew up and left home and these 4 Tree Swallows will be leaving any day now. A Bluebird built another nest in Box 3 but there are no eggs. Maybe it's just a practice nest.

The Bluebirds will be gone before I get home next week.

The Tree Swallows are so well hidden in the feathers that I can't confirm if there are 4 or 5. We had 5 eggs and I see 4 beaks but there could be another easily hidden.
