The theme for December is:
"My favorite memory or accomplishment from 2009 is _______________"
Did you reach a personal goal, have a memorable vacation, welcome a new family member, get a promotion, get healthy or make a special quilt? Commemorate it in a postcard and tell us about it!
Here's how it works. You will have two opportunities to enter.
- Post a comment on this post describing how you would design a card to express what you are thankful for. To be eligible, the comment has to include a description of your virtual card. There's only one entry allowed for the virtual card comment.
- For a second entry you can make the postcard (or another design) and post it somewhere on the web (your blog, Flickr, Webshots...) and add a link to the challenge post. The link must be to the image of the card or blog post or wherever it is. You get an entry in the drawing for every card you make!
Have fun! Add your links here:

My favorite memory or accomplishment from 2009 is my eldest boy getting A* for all the subjects in the PSLE, and Distinction for Higher Chinese. It's not really a surprise as we expected it, but it's a relief and a joy getting the result. It is a satisfaction and big relief for 2009, the year when my youngest also started Primary school, and without any tuition, it was sure a big stress during tests and exams making sure all 3 know their work.
I would make a postcard with fireworks to mark the celebration. Lots of colourful metallic threads for the fireworks, and our family of 5 in the foreground watching the fireworks!

My wonderful (and ACHIEVED) goal this year was a trip to Asia. Primarily to attend the Great International Quilt Festival in Tokyo, but also a week long visit with my niece in Singapore.

Whoops - I forgot the postcard description. Well, it includes FEATHERS from Jurong Bird Park in Singapore.

My favorite memory or accomplishment from 2009 is: The completion of building our home in the country! It's done, except for a couple of things on the punch list. My postcard would show our long and curvy driveway up a hill through the woods. Nestled at the top of the hill is the house I/we want to live in until I/we die. I just might make this into a post card - but probably not until after the holidays! 2009 has been a great year for us in many ways.

Vicki, how on earth did I miss this?! What FUN!
My favorite memory is of family...times spent together here at Thistle Cove Farm and at the cabin.
While I, probably, won't finish it prior to the 31st, I am going to make it/several and send to my sibs and my parents so they can all share the memory and enjoy as well.
Later today, Tuesday 29 Dec, I'll blog about your challenge.
Thanks for the challenge and nudge.

My best memory for 2009 will always be my move from straight fiber arts to mixed media fiber arts and allowing myself to incorporate these discoveries into my art quilts. How could I ever forget a venture that opened up such broad horizons!

My greatest memory of 2009 is when my youngest daughter stood in front of me and cried. She said she had no idea just how awesome it would be to have a child and to love in a way she could not describe. She thanked me for her upbringing for the very first time. She is 28 and has a 2 year old son.
My postcard would have a 3 generation photo of myself, my daughter and my grandson printed on the fabric cut out into the shape of a heart...I would then embroider a poem around the outer 4 sides..
The first part would go across the top and down the right side: "You dried my tears, You calmed my fears, While you held my hand in yours."
The second part would go down the left side and come across the bottom: "Now I dry his tears, I calm his fears, While I hold his hand in mine."
I would put a finishing touch of the outlines of several tiny hearts into the background done in a very light colored contrasting thread just to give the illusion they are there but not to overpower the front.

the base for my postcards was created during a semi-annual retreat using fabrics from my friend's scrap basket. i then added an embroidered snowflake and did fancy stitching on the seam lines. i finished the edges with a tight zig zag stitch. my postcards represent the christmas 2009 blizzard.
while our get togethers were postponed, we were together in spirit and via telephones and computers. ahh. technology vs mother nature. :) i made 8 cards.
