I know, I usually do the handwork post on Wednesday but I'm just happy to have somethingto post! The process of unwinding my back continues. This past weekend was better but Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were worse. Last night I spent 2 hours rolling around on a golf ball and using the shiatsu massager to work out the knots in my back and I was much better today.
Over the past 2 weeks this is just about all I have accomplished so I am thrilled to finally share Capetown Sundown. I did not do such a great job on this one but it will look just fine hanging on the tree in the mix of all of the other ornaments. This is ornament #109. How do I know that? Because I keep a spreadsheet of course!
If that's not compulsive enough for you, I present Exhibit B: the ornament storage closet. Believe it! One entire closet devoted to the ornaments. Isn't it just the coolest? It is to me. One friend says she's sending a photo to the FBI for profiling. The truth is that the ornaments store safest hanging so when we moved here I had this extra closet in a hallway that I didn't need. 120 cup hooks later and I had this custom storage closet. The boxes on top are the three new display tress that I bought this year.
I know. You want to be me.
Now I will move back to the stupid cat cross stitch. I've actually been missing it lately. I'm glad to have the ornaments to switch back to when I get bored with the cat again. Meanwhile, I'll leave you with a few more ornaments from the closet.
The red one is Grand Tier, the white/brown one is Nutmeg, the black one is White Knight (it was supposed to be on a white ball but I picked black) and the gold one is Dresden.
It's good to be back! Maybe I can dye this weekend.

Definitely a bit OCD. But that's a great storage system.

You have 109 ornaments? on one tree! it's crazy, but it must be beautiful. and the closet is lovely. I'm jealous on two counts -- to have an extra closet, and to have so many lovely handmade ornaments. I hope your back is better soon. I got whiplash in a rear-ender 2 weeks ago and my neck hurts too.

I DO wanna be you, but you keep talking me out of it!
Glad to see you post!

You know, I'd have to cover those display tree boxes in some pretty paper and have a glass door on that closet! I don't think I could close the door and not see them!
Can you tell I love the ornaments?!?! LOL

The ornaments are gorgeous! And the storage closet a bit of genius... very clever solution. I do agree though, a glass door would be cool...then you could enjoy them year round.

I love the ornament closet.

I used to consider myself a detailed and organized person but I can't touch you and these days, my sewing spaces are anything but organized. I'm another one who'd do just about anything for an extra closet!

Your ornaments are lovely, Vicki! What a great way to store them, too. (If you run out of closets to organize, will you please come over and help me with mine? )

Okay, Vicki... how about we trade?! You come organize my closets, and I will go over to decorate your house?! :) You don't look like you need help decorating at all - look at all the gorgeous ornaments you have!!! They are simply to die for!!!

I'm amazed that you have so many of those ornaments, and a closet to store them in! It would be cool to turn the whole thing into a display cabinet!

The amount of work you put into the ornaments makes them worth careful storage. Hope your back improves soon, Vicki. I know how terrible that can be.

Astounding.
Just astounding.

I totally agree with the glass door and maybe glass shelves too. Those ornaments are scrumptious and deserve to see more than the back of a wooden door.
Glad to hear your back is coming around. Be careful!

I hope your back continues to improve. I've used tennis balls for massage, but I've never tried golf balls. That must deliver some intense pressure.
Your ornaments are gorgeous. I really like the trees you got for them too.

I think it's worth storing them like that. It would be crazier(!) to spend hours making them and then not look after them.
Gosh, this back of yours is worrying!

How Martha Stewart of you... :o) I think they are lovely and I can see why you store them the way you do...and the nice thing is that you can sneak a peek throughout the year :o)
My grandmother made baubles like that when I was little..though I'm not sure if any of them survived...

okay first off, how do you have an extra closet that you don't need! Never heard of such a thing. It works great for storing those ornaments though.
Not happy to hear that your back is still giving you trouble :(

Hi, Vicky. Thanks for visiting my blog. I always wished for a closet for a set-up tree, never thought about a closet just for the ornaments. Way to go! The new one is beautiful.

Thanks for looking at my purple quilt. I have enjoyed seeing all your lovely ornaments and your storage system is very clever. Wish I could work out something so nice with pieces of batting...

Um WOW!!!! I wish I had enough closets in my house to store specialty items. So how do you remember all the names of these ornies? No, don't tell me, spreadsheet!
Posted by: Terri | January 09, 2009 at 08:46 AM
I have said it before, and I will say it again: You are not well.
Keep up the craziness! Sanity is overrated anyway.

Wow, can I see a copy of "the profile" when it arrives? LOL, just kidding. Count on you to have an ornament closet like THAT one!

Beautiful beaded ornaments and a great idea to keep them hanging all year. Every year I am distressed when I open my boxes of treasured ornaments and have to get out the glue gun to fix the ones that have broken. Maybe I missed a post where you told us, but are these all from kits from a certain company?
I hope you will soon have some relief from your back problems.

This just cracks me up! You are unbelievable -- the storage area is a hoot and a good idea. I think you'd have a field day at my house. I love your new ornament and hope you get to your dying soon.

Yes, yes... A glass door! With small lights inside each shelf. Oh lovely!
Wow, I hope your back gets better soon. How painfully awful. Do you have muscle relaxers or anything you can take to help? A massage therapist? A hot tub soak?
Back pain is terrible... goodluck with the recovery.
