Another QOV Done!
This quilt is intended as a QOV and hopefully I can get it out of the house before Chris gets too attached to it. he REALLY, REALLY likes it! He's not getting it though - he has his own blankies.
The quilt is from a patern developed by Judy Laquidara for one of her Quilt For An Hour quilts. I am short two borders from the original design because I ran out of blue fabric. It would look better with an additional narrow white and narrow navy border but it's just fine as it is. Hopefully this photo will not enlarge enough for you to see all of the pieced sectins of the last two navy borders - there are a lot of seams there! The finished size is 65 x 90. The binding is made of pieced strips of all of the red fabrics. In the end I have about 30 inches of red fabric left. Now, that's a nice way to make a scrap quilt!
Here's some more information on the details........
This photo is a close up of the two blocks used in the quilt. Judy does a great job of designing 2-block quilts. Actually she does a great job of designing quilts, period.
Here's the back. I am really please with the fabric that I dyed for the back. I wanted a light denim color and I think that's what I got. The batting is Warm & Natural. I know a lot of people do not like this batting but I love it. I often pre-wash the batting to pre-shrink it. It holds up really well in the washer by itself. On this quilt I did not pre-wash it because I wanted the soft, snuggly feel of the quilt with a little shrinkage. I like the effect. The quilting was done with Superior King Tut (#902) in the needle and Superior So Fine (#421) in the bobbin and the pantograph Star Swirl by Michelle Wymann and Terri Watson. That's a really nice panto for good overall texture but very fast quilting.
As I mentioned above, I made the binding from the left over red fabrics so there are a lot of joins. But I like the effect of a scrappy binding. For quilts that I intend to be used as blankets I usually sew the binding to the back and top-stitch it down on the front of the quilt. This time I decided to try Sharon Schamber's binding technique. I liked it. I'm not sure I would use it all the time and I certainly need to improve my technique with it, but it makes a very nice and reasonably fast finish.
I'll get the Chinese Coins quilt done before I send this off to QOV so that I can send them off together. It's been a very nice weekend here so far. The weather is beautiful! I met the LQS owner for lunch yesterday to plan some classes (after I got the binding on this QOV done). The rest of my weekend has been about dyeing quilt backs (I'll post about that later) and trying to get my fat quarter Churn Dash quilt designed. DH left yesterday and is now in Edmonton Canada for a few days of hunting - birds of some sort.

It turned out great! The panto works well with the top.

I don't blame Chris--I really like it, too! It turned out quite nicely. Love the colors.

I love your color choices on this one and I'm jealous that yours is finished already. I still have to finish piecing my top.
